I agree. I think it is a terrible idea to pay off one person’s bills and not another. Without knowing their personal financial details, this arrangement sounds a hint hinky to me. How would it benefit them together for him to pay off her student loans first? Either way, someone is paying interest as it compounds. I think they (the young couple) should seek the advice of a financial planner — especially BEFORE they get married. Else, they may be fighting about money for years to come towards an inevitable divorce.
