I agree. We’ve gone to a couple of meetup events where we were ultimately pitched by others. I don’t particularly like this approach; preferring meeting people I have more in common with or working towards a similar goal. Ex. Went to a community arts meetup at a bar on a side of town I’d not gone to in forever. The bar (a hipster micro-brew place with an open covered patio, where everyone has a man-bun and a cute dog), served interesting brews, they had various food trucks, and we met all sorts of people with different art interests. While we didn’t get any “jobs” out of it, we made a few lovely connections that could lead to something later.
