I had that — negligent parents who were never around, leaving me to fend for me and my siblings. I find more and more women who were childhood caretakers of their multiple siblings are less likely to have children. Been there, done that. We’ve seen what is really involved and sometimes it is not pretty. Sure, motherhood is an honorable, hard thing to do. But it’s just not for everyone. And I certainly didn’t want to feel like a ‘mom’ my whole life after I raised all of my younger siblings.
