I had that “shyness” misunderstood as the kids I went to school with — the ones who didn’t get that I was being neglected at home, the ones who made fun of me all the time for being quiet and poor — assumed I was just stuck up when I kept to myself. Um, what? No. It is called being introverted. And why would I want to socialize with kids who were mean to me ALL the time? But it was in my nature to keep to myself anyway.
