I’m aware of why it’s like this. We live in a sexist society where most people believe in “male brains” and “female brains.” So women are expected to like dolls and frilly pink dresses, while men are expected to like sports and video games. Finding out that women are into the things they have been taught to perceive as “male” interests threatens a sexist man’s masculinity.
I re-roofed (the entire thing) my own house once. I was informed it was sexy only because they could never imagine a woman, in the intense summer heat, clearing and replacing shingles on an entire house. Weird double standard. I don't consider it sexy when a crew of guys do home renovations. It was hellish, necessary work. At the time I didn't have the money to hire people to do it, but I had the skill set (growing up in a household with a general carpenter) and I had enough to buy the materials. It upset me a little when I had guys who tried to explain to me how I should have just found a way to pay a crew to do it because it was too hard of a job for me to do. Gee, really? Yeah, it was grueling AF, but I had to do what I had to do. I didn't have some boyfriend, husband, or male family member helping me out financially. Also, a lot of them doubted my ability to do quality work.
