It is frustrating how common this is. Time and time again, I’ve had doctors project their personal lifestyle beliefs onto me regarding my reproductive choices instead of just providing the facts and information. I think if a woman, regardless of if she has kids or not, wants to be sterilized, she shouldn’t have to go through multiple doctors and appointments trying to find someone willing to do it. And no, you can’t just call their office and ask if the doctor objects — they want their $, they want you to do the consult, THEN they say, “Why don’t you just stay on the pill a little longer? I think (the doctor) YOU will change your mind.” Like, “Gee, thanks. I wanted to completely waste a co-pay on you telling me exactly what someone else has told me.” No medical reason against sterilizing, just their own opinion about how you’ll change yours.
