Sometimes saying nothing still puts us in harm's way.

Think about those type of men who yell horrible things at women on the street; women who dare to ignore the cat-calls and micro-aggressive chants and grunts as they go about their own business.

Whether I ignore them or not, these types of guys still feel I am obligated to engage just because I’m there — walking down the street for exercise, or running an errand, or on my way to work. Hey, man. I’m just minding my own damn business like everyone else. So why put ME in a spot where I have to, once again, stand up for all womanhood, and remind you I’m not a piece of chattel. Then, invariably, you get upset and threaten me, slut-shame me, or say other unnecessary, mean things to me. Again, I was minding my own business until you targetted me.

I’ve had this happen more times than I can count.
