These old school minded employers seem to be under the mistaken notion we’re being supported by our daddies or husbands. Statistcally, most of us are single mothers who aren’t getting much help from absent fathers. They’re off making a better wage, on average, while we are penalized income and career-wise for having kids. And what about those of us who don’t, and who never take maternal leave? Where is that retroactive bonus in pay?
Also, emasculation is a huge issue. Most men I know cannot handle their partner earning more than them. My ex husband is a perfect example. Over time, he made it apparent he could not handle me making more than him.
