I hate this micro-aggressive crap that people assume because you don’t have that special someone or kids, there must be something amiss and “don’t worry” because you can always settle for a relationship you don’t want in order to satisfy the opinions around you. First, it’s the lack of a partner, then lack of offspring, then you’re told you can’t earn more than your man or else he might feel emasculated. Then you’re getting judged about your parenting style, etc.. blah blah blah. Point is — there is no winning or getting someone to see that you really are genuinely quixotic in your single-hood. They might be saying these things thinking they are being kind, gently nudging you into doing something you feel in your gut isn’t what you want, but because it’s the generalized norm, you’ll grow to like it like they do.
