Yeah, well, having been raised by one who did everything she could to make our lives hell on Earth, I’m going to have to disagree.

I have zero sh*ts to give — sympathy-wise — for narcissists parents. If they force their kids to suffer in silence while they live in filth (like animal feces level of filth), in abject poverty, with little to no food, ill-fitting clothing (no underwear or socks), no clean towels, broken appliances, utilities shut off all the time — basically chaos; who don’t teach them anything about hygiene; who USE their own handicapped child to keep the other kids in line, or else, and force us to supplement her lifestyle (because she faked an illness for years, i.e. too lazy to work); someone who uses covert-narcissistic tactics like manipulating us, alienated us, pitting one against another, blatant favoritism, gaslighting, flying monkeys, etc. and basically just using us like living wallets. That person does not deserve sympathy. But she gets it because she looks like a sweet old lady and plays “the victim” so well because of it. If you find the flaws in her facade, though, and question or see the monster underneath, she goes out of her way to punish you for it.
